Guelph's municipal water is very hard. The reason is the source: the City states that Guelph is the largest city in Canada to rely almost exclusively on groundwater, drawn from limestone and dolomite bedrock that dissolves calcium and magnesium along the way. Many homes in the communities around Guelph - Arkell, Puslinch, Morriston, Puslinch Lake, Eden Mills and rural Guelph/Eramosa - are on private wells rather than City water.
